August Expeditions

During the whole of august we were excited to explore Kuopio, first and foremost though we wanted bikes and FAST, everyone here rides round on bikes and it was such beautiful weather we didnt care how much it cost us to get one (they are like gold dust to find) but after a long and hard search we found a nice chappy who was willing to sell us two matching bikes

and here you have them, it took us a while to decide on names for them, but we eventually came up with 'Issy' and 'Pissy' (for reasons that can not be disclosed)

now that we had our bikes it was time to explore, on the route to university from our apartment there is a lake called lake Kallavesi, like all the lakes in Finalnd it is beautiful especially when the sun is shining on it so we cycled round it and got some pretty awsome views from all angles

from meeting out international tutors Eija and Helja and Paulina we have found out some pretty Rad stuff that they do over here, one being swimming in the lakes, when we arrived it was moderately warm  but not the sort of temperature that i would choose to swim in, that does not however stop the locals who apparently think this is really good weather to swim in.

This Chappy was loving the weather in his speedos

10th August 2012
First stop, ikea for some beds and home comforts
very eventful experience, trying to fit two beds and a load of furnishing into one taxi was a struggle, but the taxi driver was a top bloke and sorted it, spent quite a bit on a bed and furnishings but i suppose i'm here for a year and comforts quite important (kathy convinced me to get a proper bed instead of the crappy camp bed i was swaying towards) thanks fuck i listened to her. love my new bedroom feels really cosy
My friends printed out some pictures for me before i came which was very thoughtful of them. Personally love the arrangement of the pictures, they will keep me from getting home sick.

9th August 2012,
we've arrived, Manchester - Helsinki, Helsinki - Kuopio. Pretty swell flight to be honest, was very surreal getting on a plane and not expecting at all what was at the other side, usually when i go places i know roughly what the destination is like, sun, sea and lots of alcohol but i was going into this blind, literally, all i knew about the place is cold, lakes and tall blonde blue eyed people. pretty naive of me really, arriving at the airport was funny, we didn't have a clue where we were going, how to say the place we were staying and most of all weather all 6 suitcases would fit in the taxi. After flagging down a taxi we eventually went to set off, dopey me tried to get in the drivers seat (not to self: they drive on the opposite side, twat). The drive to our accommodation was exciting but i was very anxious, Kathryn and i had booked un furnished apartments (again due to my lazy ness i didn't book in time) so i didn't know what to expect really

Further more we arrived at our Flat : Kantotie 1B Flat 10 Room 8
i was pleasantly surprised, clean, had a wardrobe, decent size. no idea what i was planning on sleeping on for the first night though, optimistic me thought there may miraculously be a bed there maybe?! nope, first night was eventful, Kathy and i teamed up into one room because it was freezing and got cozied up in the few warm coats we had bought with us

it actually wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be, suppose i have slept in worse places.
Very New to this blogging shit, been studying Textiles for two years now and quite frankly have been too lazy to ever make a blog, that does not, however, make me an less passionate for what i do.

iv recently started what some would say 'my dream' which is exactly what it is without sounding all cringe! Iv ventured over to Finland for a WHOLE year of studying, 'crazy' i know, and so far, it has been a pretty 'crazy' experience in weird 'crazy' way...i feel like i have got into Doctor who's police box and requested it stops in the 60's where eveyone smells like beer and dont take showers. but im open to adventures and always make the best of an 'interesting' situation so im gunna start from the beginning of the journey (i fully understand the dates will be wrong) but thats what you get for being lazy.

Peace bloggers
